Your Breast Augmentation Consultation Checklist

A good consultation should leave you with clear answers and no pressure. Take notes, ask for the plan in writing and give yourself time to think.

Before you go

• Write down your goals and what bothers you now
• Collect photos that show the look you want and the look you do not
• List your medical history, medicines, allergies and any previous surgery
• Note your family history of breast cancer
• Plan to ask someone you trust to come with you, if you like

Ask about the surgeon

• What is your training and registration?
• How often do you perform this operation?
• Can you explain complications you have seen?

Ask about the procedure

• Which technique, implant and placement do you recommend, and why?
• What are the alternatives, including doing nothing?
• What are the risks specific to me?
• What will my scars look like?
• What will recovery look like, and when can I return to work and exercise?

Ask about the implant

• Manufacturer, model, surface and size
• Regulatory approvals and warranty
• Monitoring recommendations

Ask about the facility and aftercare

• Where will surgery be done, and by whom is anaesthesia given?
• Who do I contact after hours?
• What follow-up visits are included?
• What happens if I need another operation?

Ask about money, clearly

After the consultation

Take time. A reputable clinic will not mind if you think it over, get a second opinion or return for another visit before consenting. If the surgeon is not willing to give you written information, that is itself information.
