Surgical Breast Enlargement

Recovery varies with the extent of the lift and whether it is combined with other surgery. Your surgeon’s instructions take priority over any general timeline.
Most people go home the same day or after one night.
You will usually be given pain relief. Follow instructions and avoid medicines you were told to stop, since some raise bleeding risk.
Sleeping on your back with your upper body slightly raised is commonly advised. Avoid sleeping on your front.
Wear the recommended bra as directed, usually for several weeks. Avoid underwired bras until your surgeon says it is safe.
Keep dressings clean and dry as instructed, and attend wound checks. Scars mature over a year or more. Protect them from the sun.
Swelling and tightness mean the breasts may look high and tight at first. They settle gradually over weeks to months.
Attend wound and scar checks even if you feel well. Ask when changes in shape, nipple sensation or scar colour are expected and when they are not. Take concerns to your own surgical team rather than changing dressings, bras or scar treatments based only on advice online.
Do not drive while taking strong pain relief or while movement is restricted. Desk work may be possible after a week or two, but physical work and exercise usually need longer. Ask for advice specific to your operation.
Early swelling can make the breasts look high and tight. Most change occurs over the first few months, but subtle settling can continue for longer. Avoid judging the final shape in the first weeks.
Fever, increasing pain, spreading redness, a wound opening, rapid swelling on one side, or skin around the nipple turning dark or pale. See warning signs.
Plan for rest, help at home and patience while the shape settles. See Breast Lift Surgery.
